Celebrate with Sparrows

World Sparrow Day, observed on March 20, was launched in 2010 by the Nature Forever Society of India and the Eco-Sys Action Foundation. The day aims to raise awareness about the threats faced by house sparrows and other urban birds. Events such as art competitions, awareness campaigns, and sparrow processions are organized globally. The initiative provides a platform for conservationists to connect, collaborate, and share ideas, promoting the protection of common biodiversity.

What we did last year?

On 20th March 2025, World Sparrow Day was celebrated at Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Udyan & Zoo, organized by Nature Forever Society. The event brought together around 150 participants, including representatives from BMC, the Forest Department, media, residential societies, zoo staff, and conservation supporters.

The celebration was graced by Jitendra Pardeshi, Garden Superintendent – BMC, as Chief Guest. Marking the 16th year of World Sparrow Day, the event continued to strengthen awareness and conservation efforts for the House Sparrow and urban biodiversity.
